This course focuses on the Eleusinian Mysteries as the archetypal initiation in the ancient world and explores the psychology of initiatory experiences then and now. The major literary sources on the Mysteries are provided in the text for this course: To Celebrate the Mysteries (TCtM): A Reader on Things Eleusinian, which includes poetry, prose, and a play. What would be in a textbook will be covered by my lectures.
